Her words - beautiful, awkward
Like a lamb fresh from the womb
Parched with mystery
Floundering in the morning dew

“Then, Éowyn of Rohan, I say to you that you are beautiful. In the valleys of our hills there are flowers fair and bright, and maidens fairer still; but neither flower nor lady have I seen till now in Gondor so lovely, and so sorrowful. It may be that only a few days are left ere darkness falls upon our world, and when it comes I hope to face it steadily; but it would ease my heart, if while the Sun yet shines, I could see you still. For you and I have both passed under the wings of the Shadow, and the same hand drew us back.”
that’s me.
super stoked to be at the animal farm.
my mom is behind me pulling the wagon.
in the wagon is my brothers.
they are probably holding it down with a nap back there.
those guys were always way better at sleeping than me.
my sister isn’t born yet.
i don’t really have many pictures from my youth.
i guess have about twenty pictures.
i like this one.
this picture reminds me that when you are young you run out in front.
when you are little you run in overalls with no problem.
you don’t need any special clothes.
you don’t need an incentive.
i guess you just ball up your fist and pretend like you know where you’re going.
when you are young it’s okay to look like you are trying.
to just be openly excited and show that you want something.
even if that something is to lead the way.
when you’re young few things can stop you.
here’s to being little.
here’s to being open about the fact that you are trying.
here’s to running in front.
even if you don’t always know where you’re going.
be stoked.
find it again.
hold on.

These are poems by Fricis Bārda (1880 - 1919) He spent time in Vienna, being influenced by the philosophers Bergson and Nietzsche. His Songs and Prayers for the Tree of Life is one of his major collections of poetry.
Given he was in Vienna as a contemporary of Gustav Klimt, it is fitting to have one of Klimt’s visual takes on the Tree of Life for the illustration.
Songs and Prayers for the Tree of Life
Prelude
I am not real, and wish to remain so -
Like this I can weigh all things finer and deeper.
Of you I’ll just smirk perhaps, sometimes,
To get angry - well that would be pointless.Tree of Life
You great, great Tree of Life!
All your branches are filled with flowering suns.
Your tips sway with clusters of stars.
and, when the swinging branches shower their dew,
new worlds roll out in shining beauty.Ah, infinite Tree of Life,
encircling whose roots lies the eternal bow
infinitely dark and infinitely bright
like a snake that has swallowed it’s tail -
listen -
oh, listen up still -
at what this thinnest twig here with
Your very smallest bud:
it just wants to unfold -
through Your power it will unfold!Ah, with your flowering suns,
eternal light enveloped,
to flower it wants and will unfold -
with the suns and stars and eternity together!Fr. Bārda, 1912-1914

Caspar David Friedrich, Evening
Photographs by Martin Klimas
“For this series, Klimas spent six months and about 1,000 shots to produce the final images from his studio in Düsseldorf, Germany. The resulting images are Klimas’s attempt to answer the question ‘What does music look like?’”
So cool! I think he failed, but that’s probably subjective. Amazing artwork and admirable idea regardless!
